Police have captured the man who is accused of robbing a 7-Eleven store in Riverside last month, Riverside police said in a news release. The suspect was taken into custody by Berwyn police Friday after he committed an armed robbery in that town and dropped his identification at the site of the crime, police said.
According to the release, Riverside detectives interviewed the suspect, identified as Brandon Waters, 39, of Chicago, and he gave a full written confession.
Both Riverside and Berwyn police charged Waters with armed robbery. Chicago, Westchester and numerous other suburbs have open cases involving Waters, the release said. His history includes drugs, retail theft, domestic battery and aggravated robbery, escape from police, aggravated assault and battery, police said.
The Riverside robbery was about 4 AM June 19 at the 7-Eleven at Harlem and 26th. According to police, Waters brandished a black handgun and pointed it at the clerk. Waters ordered the clerk to crouch in the corner of the store. The 911 call was delayed 15 minutes.
As for the delay, Police Chief Tom Weitzel told Patch in an email last month, “(The clerk) was told by the offender to stay in the corner crouched and not call police. He was afraid that he would be shot, so he wanted to make sure he was gone from the area…” LaGrange Patch
