Deputy, Loss Prevention Associate Assaulted, Hospitalized

Around 11:00 PM on Saturday, police reports say that a man assaulted a Kalamazoo County Deputy and loss prevention associate with a metal flashlight.  The suspect, who wasn’t identified in the story, had been stopped on suspicion of shoplifting.Authorities say that the LP associate was trying to detain the suspect, when the Deputy tried to arrest the suspect in the parking lot, when the scuffle broke out. The suspect allegedly struck the deputy in the head several times with a metal flashlight.  The LP associate was also struck in the head. Both were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated and released. Deputies report that the suspect was arrested and taken to the Kalamazoo County Jail and is facing multiple assault charges.
