DA Declines to Prosecute Deputy Who Shot at Shoplifting Suspect

The Nye County (Nevada) District Attorney’s Office says that it will not prosecute the matter of the Sheriff’s Office Deputy James Ramos in a release Tuesday.

Ramos, 47, was arrested Monday, March 2, following an investigation into a Feb. 25 incident during which Ramos discharged his duty weapon once during the pursuit of a shoplifting suspect behind the Walmart in Pahrump. The round did not strike the suspect, but the sheriff’s office determined the shot was not within its policy.

“It all boils down to intent in this case and I just don’t see any malicious or corrupt intent, so I don’t think prosecuting Deputy Ramos would be the right thing to do,” District Attorney Chris Arabia said… NBC3 News
