Corrective Education Company Helps Cut Law Enforcement Calls by More than 40 Percent

Corrective Education Company is proud to have been a part of an educational webinar with Walmart and Arlington Police Department (APD), outlining the success of their recent partnership in Arlington, Texas.

Through the program, Arlington has seen a 41.6 percent drop in calls to law enforcement and shoplifting arrests have decreased more than 60 percent. This allows APD to save over 2,000 officer hours, which is equivalent to giving four full-time police officers back to the community.

“This opportunity helps us from tying up our officer resources for a smaller, class C misdemeanor, and giving our community back our officers so they can deal with more violent crime,” said Arlington Assistant Chief of Police Kevin Kolbye.

“We’ve been able to save thousands of man hours not responding because Walmart and CEC have taken the initiative to put them into some type of first-time offenders program.”

Retailers also see the value in giving people a second chance. During the webinar, Walmart discussed the value they see in the new partnership with CEC.

“As we have rolled this out in the three Arlington Super-Centers, we have recently made some decisions to expand this out because of the value we’re seeing,” said Paul Jaeckle, senior director of asset protection strategy and solutions design for Walmart Stores, Inc.

In the webinar, they indicated that 183 of the eligible 188 offenders completed the program, which is a 97 percent success rate.

“This is a really good business case of the relationship between Arlington and how our facilities operate within an individual jurisdiction,” Jaeckle said.
