Chicago police have released images and video footage of three suspects involved in the fatal shooting of a security guard in the Chatham neighborhood of Chicago.
Security guard Edward Fontaine Creamer was shot and killed just before Christmas while confronting a group of thieves at a Chicago-area shopping center when he attempted to stop the thieves stealing from one of the local stores. Video footage shows two men and a woman loading store merchandise into shopping baskets and a Nike bag and walking out of the store.
When Creamer confronted the suspects as they exited the store, police said one man pulled out a gun and shot Creamer three times. He was transported to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and later died from his injuries, officials said.
Police have not identified the store involved, but other workers at the shopping center said Creamer was assigned to protect the DTLR store in the same shopping center and confronted the retail theft team, identified as two men and a woman, after they exited the store with the stolen merchandise. Police are also seeking a fourth person who the suspects met up with in the parking lot. The suspects fled the scene in a Nissan Maxima that had been stolen one day earlier.
Creamer was a father of seven and a grandfather of five children. Friends said he was loved and respected by all those he knew. He was also a black belt in karate who taught and mentored children.
