Metro police have arrested a North Nashville Family Dollar employee after they say he shot a suspected shoplifter. According to a police affidavit, officers responded to the business on Wednesday for a report of a shooting. The man told police an employee in the store shot him in the foot so Nashville Fire Department crews transported him to Nashville General Hospital for treatment. When officers spoke to the suspected shooter, identified as 32-year-old Devereaux Evans, he told them there was a confrontation between the victim and him over a shoplifting incident. Evans initially denied shooting the man. Shortly after North Precinct detectives arrived on scene and viewed security footage at the Family Dollar that showed Evans appear to hide a handgun at some point during the crime. Detectives found a handgun inside the store, according to the affidavit, so officers transported Evans to the North Precinct to be interviewed. During the interview, police said, Evans admitted to shooting the victim in the foot. Evans remained jailed downtown on $2,500 bond Thursday. [Source: Tennessean]
