C-Store Clerk Stabbed and Wounded after Shoplifting Incident

A Long Beach, California, convenience store clerk was recovering after a man slashed him with a sharp object and fled the business, police said. The stabbing happened about 2:30 a.m. outside the store on Long Beach Boulevard near Wardlow Road, police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

Officers called to the scene learned that before the stabbing, another man had attempted to shoplift from the store, but he was stopped by employees and forced to leave, she said. “While one of the employees was standing outside, a separate male subject approached him. Words were exchanged and the subject slashed at the victim with a sharp instrument,” Pratt said. “The employee was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening injury.”

Police did not know if the attack and the attempted shoplifting incident were related. The assailant, described as in his late teens or early twenties, was seen fleeing in a vehicle, police said. A description of the car was not available. Anyone with information was asked to contact police at 562.570.7250. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 800.222.TIPS (8477) or by using the P3 Tips smartphone app.   [Source: Press-Telegram]
