Attendees Affect, Detect, and Connect at the LPRC’s 2024 Violent Crimes Summit

Affect, detect, connect—that was the theme for the Loss Prevention Research Council’s (LPRC) 2024 Violent Crimes Summit held in Albuquerque, New Mexico last week, April 23-24. This event brought retailers, solution providers, and law enforcement together for a jam packed agenda that focused on the challenges we all are facing in communities across the country.

The participants were taken on a tour of the Brookfield-managed Coronado Mall which demonstrated a top tier focus on safety and security in this shopping environment. There were four stages of demonstrations that showcased a canine detail for firearm protection/prevention, an exterior focus on license plate readers on the entrances into the mall, processes and measures the internal security team places on safety/security, and the efforts of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s department on an ORC investigation that thwarted the efforts of a New Mexico crime group.

All of this information was structured into the LPRC focus on a Safer Places Initiative for Albuquerque headed by Cory Lowe, director of Research at LPRC. Sessions ranged from the effects of violent crimes from retailers, law enforcement, and prosecution as members of each sector presented their perspective on these topics. All of the information presented culminated in a call for various solutions to combat violent crimes in order to create a better retail environment for consumers and retailers.
