The Bottom Line at Best the Buy in Stroud Township, Pennsylvania, took a substantial hit last month just before Easter when about $80,000 worth of merchandise was stolen, Stroud Area Regional Police confirmed Tuesday.
“We’re looking into it,” said Capt. Paul Gasper, who declined to discuss what merchandise was taken or how it was removed from the store in the Shoppes at Stroud shopping center on Route 611. “It’s still under investigation,” Gasper said. “We have some leads.” Gasper said the merchandise was stolen in “one incident.”
“It was a physical theft, not a purchase,” Gasper said, referring to a common scam employed by thieves who pick up merchandise in the store, then take it to customer service and try to make a return on an item they claim to have purchased but don’t have a receipt. Gasper said he was withholding additional information to protect the integrity of the investigation. The stolen merchandise was worth between $70,000 and $80,000, “Hopefully in a few months, we’ll have more,” Gasper said… Pocono Record
