Interview and Interrogation Training: Self Development

In this week’s International Association of Interviewers interview and interrogation training tip provided by Wicklander-Zulawski, Dave Thompson, CFI wants to talk about you. What are you doing to improve yourself, whether professionally, personally, or specifically in terms of becoming an elite interviewer?

Step one is watching this video tip right now, which means you’re interested in continuing your education. Never stop. But challenge yourself as an interviewer. What are you doing to make sure you’re on top of current trends in the system? Are you up to date on legal news? Are you current on some of the research that’s out there on different types of interview and interrogation techniques? Do you understand that maybe some of the things you’ve said or done in an interview ten or fifteen years ago may not apply as well today?

What are you doing from a professional standpoint? When is the last time you spoke with someone you consider a mentor? When was the last time you mentored somebody else? You have a special skill. Part of having that skill is to be able to share it with others. Don’t be afraid to be somebody’s mentor, and more importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for one yourself. Never stop learning. Always pursue continued education. What can I do now to be better tomorrow?
