A pair from Long Island is facing charges in Fairfield County after being caught red-handed allegedly stealing nearly $2,000 worth of makeup from CVS store, police said. Officers from the Darien Police Department received a report of an active larceny from employees at CVS on Post Road shortly after 7:45 AM on Thursday, June 5.
Upon arrival, officers entered the store and located a man and woman who matched descriptions provided by the employee in the makeup aisle. According to police, while observing the pair – later identified as Happaugue resident Steven Panagatos, 32, and Mastic Beach resident Kristin Olsen, 28 – the officer saw Panagatos put merchandise in his sweater while holding a bag with stolen items.
When Panagatos saw the officers surveilling him, police said he dropped the bag that had been slung over his shoulder and told officers he had intended to put the allegedly stolen items inside back on the shelves.
The two were taken into custody and further investigation found multiple makeup items on each of them during a search. In total, Panagatos and Olsen had a total of approximately $1,800 in merchandise on him.
