Defendant in 2016 Death of Shoplifting Suspect Dies of a Heart Attack

Randall Eugene Tomko, a former Walmart loss prevention officer facing manslaughter charges in the February 2016 death of a suspected shoplifter, has died of a heart attack.

The manslaughter charge was still pending against Tomko of Winter Haven when he died Friday at age 62. His lawyer, Jeff Holmes of Bartow, had filed a motion to dismiss the charges under the state’s stand-your-ground law, but that hearing had not yet taken place.
