$80,000 Worth of Rolex Watches Stolen Via Sledgehammer

Police say they are looking for two young men who used sledgehammers to break open a jewelry cabinet at Lord & Taylor and steal $80,000 worth of Rolex watches.

Capt. Richard Conklin said the two were in the store at about 5:44 p.m. Thursday when they walked up to a jewelry case. They pulled the hammers out of a backpack that one of them was carrying and began smashing the glass-topped case of high-end watches, he said.

Conklin said as near as police can figure at this point, the men took eight to 10 of the Rolex watches and quickly fled. “It looks like the two parties involved entered the store earlier, probably in an effort to case the location, about an hour and one-half prior to this action they took. They knew right were they were going and were out of the store very quickly,” Conklin said. “Luckily nobody was hurt and we are investigating further at this point.” The suspects are… Greenwich Time
