Whether you’re in loss prevention, asset protection, human resources, audit compliance, or even law enforcement: when it comes to being a good business partner or good member of the community, you have to think about your role outside the scope of your normal job. Certainly, you have a job descriptions and metrics that you’re reviewed on, but what do you bring to the bottom line? More importantly, are taking the knowledge and experience you have to serve as a mentor and leader in your organization?

Do your operational partners see the value which you bring back to your company or organization? What are you doing outside of your job description to help improve the business and the bottom line? What impact are you making?

This is a good thing to think about and spend some time on self-reflection: “What can I do to become a better business partner? How can I communicate more often? How can I be more aware of other people’s roles in the organization? What can I do to make their jobs easier, make my employees feel safe, make my customers feel safe, and ultimately drive the bottom line?”

Our job is a lot bigger than what we talk about in Step 3 of the Wicklander-Zulawski method. We need to think about what role we play in the bigger picture.
