This week’s International Association of Interviewers interview and interrogation training tip provided by Wicklander-Zulawski, has Dave Thompson, CFI discussing the importance of challenging your team.
Those viewers that play a role in managing, supervising or mentoring other interviewers are a vital part in their success. Generally, these individuals fall into a routine when talking to their team about a recent interview. A manager may question the interviewer on how large a confession was, how many other people did they implicate or how detailed a statement may be.
Although these are all good questions to ask an interviewer, Dave suggests another question be added to the routine. Asking an interview “how did you get the confession” could be an important learning point for both the interviewer and their manager.
Listening for any suggestions of leniency, threats, promises or other statements made during an interview will allow for a manager to immediately correct this behavior rather than assuming it isn’t happening. With our ultimate goal of identifying the truth, we want to ensure its being done ethically, morally and legally.
